Justice and the rule of law:
My life experience as a dual citizen of Colombia and the United States have given me the opportunity to develop a fluid identity which resides neither here nor there and at the same time in both places. As described by Stuart Hall in New Cultures of Old I consider myself a member the fluid diaspora which is made up of “people who belong to more than one world, speak more than one language […] who have learned to negotiate and translate between cultures and who, because they are irrevocably the product of several interlocking histories and cultures have learned to live with, and indeed speak from, difference […] always unsettling assumptions of one culture from the perspective of another”. This condition has always allowed me to be critical of situation in the United States and in Colombia; an ability which I am certain will help me as a lawyer, but most importantly in my goal to improve and maintain the respect for law and democracy in my two homelands.
